Cash question????

I am in need of some cash - not necessarily fast, but in the 5-6 weeks... Me and my bf work, but we still don%26#039;t bring in any more than $2000 a month. We would probably be okay if it weren%26#039;t for everything we are trying to acquire in the next few weeks.

$2100 moving costs ($700 is the rent, and they want 1st and last month%26#039;s rent along with a deposit = rent.)

$250 my son%26#039;s b-day party (plates/utensils/cake/etc...)

$750 for a car (if you know of any cheaper cars in Phila area LET ME KNOW!!!)

$??? Refrigerator (we haven%26#039;t had a fridge since we moved in 10/06)

$200 PECO bill (Elec and gas around Phila is served by PECO, I live in Chester)

$350 school books (my mom doesn%26#039;t have it, my dad won%26#039;t give it)

$135/wk for daycare (my mom works, dad lives in DC, grandprnts won%26#039;t watch him, and that%26#039;s the cheapest rate around my area)

And all of this on top of rent we pay now, utilities, house/baby stuff, and whatever else. Any body know of a good way to raise money?

Cash question????online loan

Here%26#039;s what I do that helps us drastically. I make a $ book. I have this ratty old 5 subject notebook in which I write all the monthly bills at the top of the sheet and then %26quot;schedule%26quot; our paychecks and then assign the bills as such. I used to be in your position, when I was in college, I don%26#039;t think most of the people answering truly understand how difficult it is to pay for school and take care of home as an independent student. Here are my suggestions:

1. Pay the rent (no negotiation!) you can not have your baby doing without a home.

2. Cancel/Reschedule/Postpone the party. I believe you said your son was younger (meaning under 4) at that point, the parties are not for them, they are for the parent%26#039;s benefit anyway. But, if you must have one, use your food stamps and buy the food. Bake the cake your self or get granny to bake one. Get all finger foods so that you can use NAPKINS as the plates, I don%26#039;t know how you roll but in the D a napkin can hold food just as good as any plate.

3. Check autotrader.com or craigslist for cars. Or, not sounding funny at least for the next couple of months, ride a bike, you will stay in shape and have some extra months to save up a little more money for a more reliable car. Because if you are spending $750 on the car, how much will you be spending in the end to keep it up?

4. Try freecycle for the fridge, I have priced some at Best buy for less than $300 (on sale around 200, we have ABC Warehouse in MI they have some off brands (roper, daewoo, etc... that sells cheaper look for store like that)

5. With a child in the house, as a college student, you qualify for certain discounts on your utilities, contact PECO and talk to one of the account MANAGERS not a rep or a specialist, because utimately, the manager makes the final decisions.

6. As far as books, do what I did, buy used or share with a student in the class, we would use somebody else%26#039;s book in class and if it got to the point where I truly needed a book at home I would go to AMAZON.com and find the cheapest copy of the book online and order it there at a discount, far cheaper than the campus bookstore.

7. This is another single mother (or working mother if not necessarily single) advantegeous postion, if you are in college, bring your child to class with you, the school can%26#039;t prevent you from bringing your child to class (unless you are taking a chem/bio/phy lab or something) but when I was in college, it was not unusual to see the mothers in the back with the babies in the car seats napping or playing with the toys their parents brought. If you have a toddler, pack some goodies, books, toys, paper and crayons, and plop him/her in the chair next to you. Dragged my god son all over campus with me when I had to. Then for work, try flipping schedules with your man so that when you%26#039;re working, he%26#039;s off so that he is with your son while you%26#039;re at work and then when you%26#039;re off he%26#039;s there. Also check around your campus and see if they offer free child care to students drop him off and come back later.

Lastly, no matter how much money you make, save 20% of it so in your case $400.00 a month. I know it seems like a lot but trust me in the long run, you will be glad you did. Why are you saving this much? for emergencies, (colds/flu for your son, college textbooks, lost income, last minute emergency etc...) So set your budget for $1600 a month and you%26#039;ll do fine, there are some families out here who have budgets of 1/2 that. Don%26#039;t let those people who don%26#039;t know tell you that is not enough to live off of. It might not be what you want to earn forever, but for right now, it%26#039;s a starting point.

Tips for raising money...

1. Check into workstudy jobs on campus.

2. Do hair/nails for friends.

3. Babysit for neighbors

4. Tutor at the local school system (check with your campus%26#039;

staffing office for placement options)

5. Clean other people%26#039;s houses. I used to clean my friends%26#039; places before/after parties, move ins-move outs, you know at points when the cleaning seems overwhelming to those involved but means nothing to you. I charged $50 for preclean $75 for post clean or $110 for both. That was 5 years ago, so I%26#039;m sure you can charge a little more now. For Move out / Move in I did a flat hourly rate of $20.00 per hour with a three hour minimum (most of my friends had apartments and I was in and out in less than 1.5 hours but I still got paid for my time. If I had to scrub the oven/refrigerator then I charged an extra $10.00 for each piece. Trust me, you know some people who are lazy and hate cleaning, make you some money!!!

Hope this helps, sorry so long winded.

|||sounds like you are going to have to cut out some things.......you can surely cut the birthday party to a cheaper birthday party.......and i know there is some places that do help people with things they need.....i really do not know much about the area in which you live though......but you might try calling a church and see if they can help you....i know my church offered to help me when i made a mistake and spent to much on grandkids school clothes.......but they know i will give it back......but they are also the kind of people that help when needed...........it is sad your family will not help you.......i have a son that is the same way..........but i wander if you call a church or go to some of your friends and ask them.......the refrigerator you should be able to get from some thrift store or get help with things you really need.......|||I would suggest finding a better paying job. You did not mention what you do for a living. I don%26#039;t want to offend you, but $2000.00 a month between two people is ridiculously low. You could wait tables and bring home that by yourself, without paying taxes on your tips.|||Cut the cost of the birthday party. Sorry but times are tough and just explain to your son. Why aren%26#039;t you baking the cake anyway? You could catch a sale on cake mixes, it%26#039;s cheaper and home made is always better.:) Why is it costing so much? You don%26#039;t have the money, so don%26#039;t do it right now, you can make it up at Christmas when things (and I%26#039;m sure they will) get better and your more settled after the cost of the move.

Is that the best rate on moving you could find? If so, and you have that much stuff, advertise some things on Craigslist and get rid of it for it money now instead of paying to have it hauled.

That sounds like a high price (from a moving company ?) to move someone into a $700.00/month rental. Double check your movers...NOW and do you have any friends that could help with trucks?

Also, Craigslist has a sectional Ad for %26quot;Free Items%26quot; and %26quot;Items Wanted%26quot;. I would have already been on that sight before I went without a refrigerator. You would not believe how much FREE stuff people actually give away because it%26#039;s easier to just give it away, then pay the extra costs to have it moved....get it?

Have you contacted your utility companies and asked them to work with you on a hardship plan? They will or their suppose too.

Can you babysit on the weekends for others?

Good luck to you...|||I do not know , where you or your boyfriend are working

but I you do not want to go to a bank because of their

horrific fees ask each your employers - if they are willing

to grant e a c h of you a loan of each $ 1200,-- repayable

within in one year . That would bring $ 2400 in - and repay-

ments in $ 100 installments each are affortable - It is worth

a try - and when the employee appreciates your work it might

work . Anyway there is no alternative to cut - check on car boot (garage) sales . I am also quite sure that the school may

know a solution how to get the school book sorted . But mainly the natural farther of your son in %26quot;in obligo%26quot; - Can%26#039;t

you claim extra child support and the state claims it back

from him - if he does not pay . I wish all your lot good luck

amy everything succeed . wishes from Germany|||$250 son%26#039;s b-day cancel that%26#039;s way to much $$$$.

You and your bf can work opposite shifts

you don%26#039;t need daycare, parents should raise their kids not daycare.

School books for who?|||First of all, you say you are only working PART-TIME and making $8.30/hour? Then why are you paying $135/week for daycare? That just makes no sense at all. How many hours are you working? I have been a single mom my daughter%26#039;s entire life (she is 14 now) and I know how expensive daycare is. But if you are paying for full-time daycare you need to be working full-time! Otherwise, what is the point? Also, check into people who do daycare out of their homes, it is usually cheaper. And you may be able to find someone part-time to watch your child only while you are actually at work.

The birthday party cost is %26quot;axable%26quot; so axe it! Make your own cake, like someone already said. Have a few kids over at your house, use your own dishes. FREE. As long as your son has fun, you don%26#039;t have to spend all that money on a party for him. Times are tough, he will need to know that. I NEVER spent that kind of money on a party for my daughter. If you have a pool where you live, have it out there. Or at a friends house. Think FREE.

For the refrigerator and other things, someone already suggested Craigslist. Also, look under Yahoo groups for FreeCycle in your area. People list things they want to get rid of there, they have to be free and all you have to do is pick them up. But be quick, things in my area always get taken QUICKLY. Also, look for used school books (maybe through your local college)?

Good luck, it%26#039;s not easy but you can do this! :)
